Laura Dern Opens Up About Friendship with Tupac, Loving Hip-Hop + “Wilson” Movie
The lovely Laura Dern joins us for an enjoyable interview on Sway in the Morning. Before jumping into discussion about Wilson, hitting theaters this Friday, we dig deeper and talk about her acting-beginnings.
Since, both her parents are actors themselves, they always encouraged her to play complicated characters.
“Use your voice, everyone is your brother and sister… you get in the streets and you speak your mind,” Laura Dern’s mom would tell her.
After stuntin’ in studio with a big rock on her finger, she later revealed that she is indeed single, and dispels rumors about a romantic relationship with Common. But she did open up about her love of hip-hop, being Tupac’s friend, and going to Chuck D’s shows, back in the day.

The team who brought you Despicable Me and the biggest animated hits of 2013 and 2015, Despicable Me 2 and Minions, returns to continue the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters—Margo, Edith and Agnes—and the Minions. Despicable Me 3, directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, co-directed by Eric Guillon, and written by Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio, will be released in theaters on June 30, 2017.
The animated film is produced by Illumination’s Chris Meledandri and Janet Healy, and executive produced by Chris Renaud.
Joining Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig in Despicable Me 3 is Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award winner Trey Parker, co-creator of Comedy Central’s global phenomenon South Park and the Broadway smash The Book of Mormon. Parker voices the role of villain Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who’s grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the ‘80s, and proves to be Gru’s most formidable nemesis to date.
David Oyelowo Speaks on Overcoming Interracial Dating Challenges + “A United Kingdom” Movie
David Oyetokunbo Oyelowo, OBE – better known as David Oyelowo paid us a visit on Sway in the Morning to talk about the powerful movie, A United Kingdom.
The film is based on a true story. Seretse Khama (David Oyelowo) is the Prince of Bechuanaland (now Botswana). In 1948 he meets and falls in love with London office worker Ruth Williams (Rosamund Pike). But their interracial relationship is not approved of by either of their families, nor by the British and South African governments.
While in-studio with us, David Oyelowo speaks on his own experiences with interracial dating, and how his traditional Nigerian father wasn’t so thrilled when he married a white woman. But now, almost two decades have passed and he happily tells us of his father and his wife’s great relationship.
